Style Unveiled LA…our Bride Laura

I love love love it when we see our brides published. Often we do not even know it until another vendor publishes it and we then see it our bride as well. That is how it happened in this case, our good friend Nili at Rancho Las Lomas posted this on Facebook. I contacted the photographer Jeffrey Neal of JNP Studios……….He is going to send us some of the shots for a later post, although in the meantime let’s see Laura and Scott.

Laura just looks lovely, but look at Scott’s face…you can not stage this look. He loves her so much.

Lauren was the talented Design Visage artist for Laura’s look. Laura is naturally a beautiful girl with perfect hair. The decision for her look was natural curls for her hair and an all down style. As I mentioned, Laura has great hair and a lot of it. This is how this style can be successful for a wedding hairstyle. Her  bridal make-up was a little more bold. Very natural colors….browns and golds although applied with a stonger pallet to give a smoky eye and overall glamerous style.

Thank you Laura for choosing Design Visage.

Beautiful Brides

Today this is a collage of a few of our brides weddings from 08. Each one special in their own way. We appreciate each and every bride that has allowed Design Visage to help them be beautiful on a glorious day. These beautiful Southern California Weddings.

You will see the half up half down hairstyle has been very popular….more than the bridal up-do. Thank you to my friends Joe and Mirta, Barnet Photography and Jim Kennedy, Jim Kennedy photography.

The Magnificent Vivi…an Indian Ceremony/St Regis

Last year we had the pleasure of meeting Vivi and Eric. I have been anxiously awaiting the photos so I could bring the whole story to you with words but mostly pictures. You know how a picture says a thousand words, it certainly applies here. Let me introduce you that have never experienced an Indian wedding to the color, ritual, and celebration. Eric and Vivi met in Times Square, New York, although the wedding was in California. One of the main reasons the wedding was in Orange County was that most of Vivi’s family is here, and this was to be the first wedding in Vivi’s family in the U.S…..and the first “love marriage”. You see in the Indian tradition, weddings were arranged and even today many still are. Vivi’s parents and grandparents both had arranged marriages. So this was quite something for the family. A marriage where the couple chose who they would marry.

Vivi and her sisters were covered in Henna. This is the design you see on her hands. It is a old wife’s tale that the women who it shows up the darkest will be the next to marry. Vivi’s henna artist also intricately inscribed Erik’s name into the design on her hands. In Indian traditional arranged marriages in the past, a bride may not be able to meet her husband until the wedding. This inscribing of the grooms name served as an ice -breaker when the couple first had a chance to meet and talk.

Erik and Vivi had a traditional Hindu wedding performed in Sanskrit. She was carried in on a dholi, a traditional Indian chariot, by her brother and male members of the family. The dholi was designed in India by a family and shipped to the U.S. and arrived just days prior to the wedding. It weighs 300 lbs! Many books show brides in India being carried from her village to the village of her new husband.

One part of the ceremony, the priest drops a ring into a decorated bowl of water and the bride and groom search for the ring at the same time by sticking their hand in the bucket. The person who finds the ring 2 out of 3 times in destined to be the more dominate in the marriage. Erik won!

Our friend Lisa Simpson of Lisa Simpson Weddings organized the entire event….wow, and Dina Douglas/Andrena Photography is responsible for all the incredable photographs. The St Regis was the stunning location.

You must stay tuned…..tomorrow will be the second wedding……you do not want to miss it!

Jenny and Bryan

Jenny came into our office without much hope. She had already gone to 3 other previews and had not been happy. Which is so foreign to Design Visage, we work with the bride on the preview until she is happy…well I guess that is why so few brides cancel after our preview. So Jenny saw a picture of a bride we had done on the Knot, and decided to give us a try.

On the preview the artist and Jenny tried a few different hairstyles. All up, all down and the final winner half up and half down. Just like trying on different styles of dresses, it is important to try your hair up and down to see what it best on you and how you want to see yourself in the pictures on your wall for the next 20 years. Many brides ask if it is necessary to have a preview, I suppose to save money. Well it is certainly possible, but to me a bit crazy. A wedding day is not the time to be deciding how you want your hair and make-up!

Jenny and Bryan were married at the beautiful Sherman Gardens in Corona del Mar. Their photographer was Eric Slay. And most importantly, a few months after the wedding, Jenny came to Design Visage for a facial. We started talking and Design Visage hired Jenny to do our accessories site Bridalmode. Jenny is very talented and with much patience taught me much about technology. Check her out at Well-United ….I highly recommend her company. Thanks Jenny for letting Design Visage be a part of your wedding.
